Australian hip hop has come a long way since it’s very humble beginning, from over the top Australian accents to slick, commercial, upbeat offerings such as this from one of the current names frequently being thrown around in the industry; Melbourne based Hip Hop collective Diafrix. “Running It” features a faster upbeat drum & bass rhythm with a catchy indie pop sound to the chorus. This track could easily fill the slot of 2012’s infectious anthem for teenagers, while also appealing to listeners who might not frequently delve into the world of Hip Hop. In other words this track does a fine job of bridging the gap between indie pop & hip hop.

Michigan born and raised singer and poster boy for blue eyed soul, Mayer Hawthorne is currently touring Australia on his How Do You Do? Tour. On Friday night I had the opportunity to check out the part geek, part hipster soul singer at The Metro in Sydney.
