Electric Empire are one of the pioneers of the soul music revival in Australia and 2011 saw them take big strides, including touring the UK and performing at the iconic Glastonbury Festival. This past Thursday they were back in Sydney to give us a show complete with a few surprises before they head off to the UK again.

Sydney’s soul/R&B crowd was buzzing with anticipation, excitement, and for many of us, memories of our younger years this past Thursday night. The reason for this was because Grammy nominated R&B singer Eric Benet was in town for an intimate show at Home Nightclub, thanks to deltaBRAVO Presents.

I recently returned from an amazing trip to the big bad city of New York, and among the many musicians I met and had the opportunity to experience live performances from, was the lovely Maya Azucena. I was at the Blue Note and this beautiful statuesque women got up on the stage and tore it up. She was mesmerizing and elevated the evening to another level. In short, she made quite an impression. So, I made a mental note (actually, I have a bad memory so I made a note in my iphone!) that when i got back to Australia I would be sure to check out her music. One of the tracks that I have on high rotation is the title track from her latest album - Cry Love. Press play & you will find that not only is this track catchy, but it has a thoughtful message to, with lyrics like “If justice had wings, she would sing, Cry Love in everything…”
